Botox

If you are planning on getting Botox treatments you should read the Botox Consent Form. (Adobe Acrobat Reader Needed)

WHAT IS IT?
Botox is purified botulinin toxin, a potent neurotoxin capable of paralyzing muscle. In very small doses, it can be used to paralyze the muscles of facial expression, which are responsible for the LINES of facial expression. This includes glabellar lines (those in the middle of the forehead projecting up from the root of the nose,) horizontal forehead lines and "crows feet" beside the eyes. The paralysis is temporary but last 3 - 4 months.

Botox is a nerve poison, but the tiny amounts used make it very safe. For example, if a person wanted ALL of the above mentioned areas treated, this would require 70 units of Botox. A lethal dose for an average sized person would be 3000 units. Although most people have only recently become aware of Botox, it has been used medically since the early 1980's without problems.

Botox is administered by injection into muscles, so there is mild discomfort. You will have to remain upright for about 4 hours after the procedure and will need to move the muscles to work in the toxin for several hours after the injection.

Results from Botox are seen in almost 80% of people by 7 days and in almost 90% by 30 days. There are, as with any procedure, the possibility of side effects but these are mild, unusual and reversible. The much feared "plastic look" is easily avoidable by not overtreating to eliminate every wrinkle.

Please call for additional pricing information.

Some people require more BOTOX than the above averages, but this is not always be accurately predicted prior to the first injection. Eighty percent (80%) of people are paralyzed by 7 days, but 90% by 30 days so it is best to wait 30 days before re-injection. Realize that the first injection works for most people, but not all. In the later group, dose adjustments may be needed but on subsequent treatments this different personal requirement will be known. Also, the BOTOX can last from 2 - 4 months with an average of 3 months. We suggest to wait after the first injection to see how long that interval is for you personally.

If you think paralysis has not occurred or is not optimal by 2 weeks, call us if we haven't called you. We will want to examine you at 3 weeks to determine if more BOTOX, and how much, is needed at week 4. Additional BOTOX will be $12/ unit unless photographically confirmed total lack of response, which is 1/2 the original price.
